Rideable Art
Nelson may well have the established
Wearable Arts, but Oturehua is breaking new ground with the inaugural
Rideable Art award at this years rally.
While the Concourse D’dung Heap has kept many rallyist’s amused over the
years some constructors have felt their creative genius was a little
repressed by this format and have successfully lobbied for the addition of
this new prize category.
The rules of the new challenge are simple, the creation must be based on a
vehicle that is eligible to enter the rally (i.e.: motorcycle, sidecar or
trike) and be capable of travelling under it’s own power from Oturehua
village to the rally site.
In addition, of course, its artistic flair must have the ability to stun
the socks off the competition judge whose decision, as always, will be
final.
Bikes will need to be in warrantable condition with their
own rego plate.
Bikes with “D plates” will not win a major prize, but are welcome to enter.
D’ dung Heaps only need to be ridden through the
gate.
Any bike leaking petrol will be removed from the compound.
“Early Bird” entries between 11.00am and 2.00pm will receive a small entry
gift.
Entries close at 3.30pm. Bikes will be required to stay in the compound
until 4.45pm for judging. Prize giving will be on the Main Stage at 5.15pm.
Prize giving will be on the Main Stage at 5.15pm.

SERVICES PROVIDED IN OTUREHUA:

BRASS MONKEY IS A TWO DAY RALLY:
We remind rallyists that the Brass Monkey Motorcycle Rally is organised for Saturday and
Sunday only. No organised services are available on Friday.

GLASS ON RALLY SITE:
Broken glass is a real problem on the site, we do not sell any drink in glass at the
Rally, in fact this year we will be selling spirits in plastic bottles in an attempt to
reduce the glass problem.
Please DO NOT bring glass bottles, there are
plenty of drinks available in cans or plastic. Your SAFETY is most IMPORTANT!

DONATIONS TO CHARITIES:
Over the years of the Brass Monkey Motorcycle Rally more than $50,000 has been
donated to a range of charities, these include: Camp Quality, St John Ambulance, local
kindergartens and playgroups plus many many more.
The B.M. Motorcycle Rally also helps the Oturehua community by
providing fund raising opportunities. For a number of years the local school won the
National Aluminium Can Collection prize for the cans they collected in one weekend!
The Oturehua Winter Sports Club who provide all the Rallys
food use the income generated to upgrade ice skating and curling facilities at the Idaburn
Dam.
The Rally also provides a welcome economic boost to the Maniototo
and Central Otago communities who provide goods and services to the rally and people
attending.

FREE SOUP & APPLES:
Dont forget to stop at the top of the entry road for your free cup of hot soup and a
crisp Central Otago apple. This facility has worked brilliantly as over
all of the rallies to
date, as no one has asked for the St. Johns on the site to treat scurvy.

SUPPORT VEHICLES:
The rally organisers are very concerned by the presence of cars and non rallyists coming
along to watch the band on Saturday night, so in 1997 we made it hard for cars to park on
the road side. (This will be even more difficult this year). We also began charging non
motorcyclists an entry fee to try to discourage them.
We have not been able to reduce the number of "backup"
vehicles bringing gear, tents and even motorcycles. We regard the rally as a MOTORCYCLE
RALLY and ask that the use of backup vehicles be kept to a minimum. Please make use of the
service we provide to transport bulky and/or heavy items to and from Dunedin and the rally
site for a nominal fee. Gear to be taken should be dropped off at the OMCC rooms, at 3
Clark Street, Dunedin between 5:00PM and 7:00PM on the Friday of the rally
weekend and gear
coming back can be picked up at the same location on Monday evening.

GEAR SHUTTLE (FREE SERVICE):
While we actively discourage people from bringing vehicles to the rally we do provide a FREE
shuttle service to take gear from the carpark to your campsite. This takes the form of
trailers pulled by 4 wheeler motor bikes. This shuttle runs on Saturday, all day and
starts again on Sunday at 8:00AM. On Sunday please wait at any of the power poles and
attract the attention of the shuttle driver from there & direct them to your gear. It
would be even better if you can take your gear to the pole & wait with it. Please be
patient, we will get to your gear.
